Fall Meeting Features DOJ, Judicial and Litigation Leaders

Lawyers for Civil Justice members will gather at the Westin New York at Times Square on December 2–4, for LCJ’s Fall 2026 Meeting. Members should register now. Registration for our Fall Meeting closes on November 19th and space is limited.

LCJ members needing information or registration links are encouraged to contact LCJ staff for details. LCJ will announce new speakers and schedule updates here as the meeting approaches. Our current meeting schedule is available here.

Led by Meeting Co-Chairs Jay Mattappally (Irwin Fritchie Urquhart Moore & Daniels) and Caroline Power (Kirkland & Ellis), our meeting will tackle emerging civil litigation and federal rule issues. The program will feature discussions of recent rule developments and the return of LCJ’s popular Shark Tank competition, where member attorneys will pitch their ideas for new rule reform proposals. We’ve assembled expert panels for discussion of artificial intelligence in discovery, expanding food and consumer product litigation, third-party litigation funding disclosure, and priorities of the federal judiciary.

We warmly welcome Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate, who leads the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Division, for a candid Q&A on developments shaping the Division’s work. We look forward to a discussion of high-stakes civil litigation and enforcement priorities and the government’s role in the federal rulemaking process.

What are the smartest general counsels watching right now? Citigroup Chief Legal Officer Brent McIntosh and ExxonMobil General Counsel Jeff Taylor will share the litigation and regulatory trends shaping how they think, plan, and allocate resources. This discussion will include insights that will help both in-house counsel and their outside litigators stay ahead of the curve.

Two prominent judicial leaders, Judge Robert Conrad, Director of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, and Judge Jennifer Elrod, Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, join us for a candid conversation about the challenges and opportunities facing the federal courts. They’ll discuss resource needs and courthouse issues and provide us with a rare window into the debates shaping the future of the federal judiciary.

U.S. District Court Judge Lewis Liman (S.D.N.Y.) and invited members of the Advisory Committee on Civil Rules will join us for a discussion of the “why” and “how” of a potential rule requiring disclosure of third-party litigation funding. We tackle a range of questions related to the implementation of a federal TPLF disclosure rule.

In addition to our in-depth programming, LCJ meetings are a great place for our members and guests to network. We will open the meeting on Wednesday, December 2nd with a 6 PM reception at the Westin. We’ll hold a pre-Broadway cocktail reception on Thursday and look forward to Friday morning breakout discussions over breakfast. We’ll wrap up before noon on Friday, December 4th.
